Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) is a regulatory program that give rights to each community-especially community that are within certain radius of a facility involved in manufacturing, metal mining, electric power generation, chemical
manufacturing and hazardous waste treatment to report to the Health and EPA authority of chemicals used at their facility. The reports are store and anyone who wants to know which chemicals are used by a facility in their community can request to review the report. As a resident of a community, it is their Right-to-Know which. The reports are also shared with the local emergency response community such as the Fire Department.
The purpose of the TRI program is report chemicals which contain carcinogens that cause
- Cancer or other chronic human health effects
- Significant adverse acute human health effects
- Significant adverse environmental effects
